Workplace Health and Safety Hazards

Whether you are a business owner, manager, or simply an employee, workplace health and safety hazards should be a concern to you. Here are some things to keep in mind. A good place to start is to employ a health and safety officer. You can easily find such a person through a health and safety jobs agency. Health and safety officer jobs are highly sought after and are therefore easily filled. If you cannot employ someone to fill the health and safety officer job role, as an employer you should take this responsibility upon yourself, or dictate it to someone who has the maturity and capability to handle it.

Here are some hazards to watch out for: slippery and obstructed floors, dangerous chemicals, sharp objects, and contaminated air. Floors should be kept dry and free from objects as often as possible. When cleaning floors, make sure to put up caution signs. Check any carpets for tears, and be sure that small area rugs have grips to keep them from sliding. Keep dangerous chemicals and sharp objects and tools in their appropriate places at all times. Cleaning chemicals should be kept in a janitorial closet.

Tools should only be used by people trained to use them. To prevent dust, mold, and other air contaminants, be sure that air ducts and heating units are kept clean. Finally, be sure to regularly check for hazards. If you cannot do so yourself, employ someone through a health and safety vacancies agency to do so for you.

How to Write a Good Health & Safety CV

In a time when good jobs are few and far between, and interviews are very hard to get, you need a good CV to make you stand out from the crowd. This is especially true when applying for health and safety jobs because your specific skills may only be applicable to a certain sector of jobs. A health and safety CV also needs to be kept up-to-date.

Basic CV writing skills are a necessity. You format your CV carefully, or use a formatting template. Make sure you have used correct spelling and grammar throughout. One tiny mistake may imply that you don’t have attention to detail, a skill that is very important in getting a health and safety job.

Next, only include relevant material. There is no need to list every single job you have ever had, unless you have only had a few jobs. (However, don’t leave long gaps between jobs without explanations.)  If you are trying to promote yourself to a more advanced position or fill  more highly sought after health and safety vacancies you will need to provide very specific skills and transferable skills.

List any other relevant information. Perhaps you spent some time volunteering at a hospital years ago, or you spent a summer in India working with underprivileged children. Don’t assume that an interviewer will think to ask you about these things. Health and safety vacancies are easily snapped up by people who have the required skills, so you should tell potential employers everything that makes you a better candidate than the next person.
